It’s week 3 in the One Room Challenge and I made a huge design change to the wall treatment. What happened? Well, what had happen was…….. I started staring at the staircase. Every time I thought of a creative way to apply wallpaper on the wall, it always ended with me tumbling down the stairs. And that’s ain’t happenin’ my friends.
As you can see, that would be a long way down. So while I can’t apply wallpaper onto the wall, I sure can add an extension pole to the end of my paint roller. So with that said, I decided to paint my feature wall Perle Noir by Sherwin Williams and the rest of the walls with Shoji White by Sherwin Williams.
I’m supper happy with how this feature wall turned out. It’s stimulates the mind and catches your curiosity as you walk up the stairs. Next week, I’ll apply the wall paper behind the console table and paint the rest of the walls.
Week 3 – To do list
- Paint Walls Shoji White
Install wallpaper Source materials for stair railing
- Build new railing
- Install new laminate flooring
Now onto the next major project in this room, that outdated railing. I wanted something modern and that would compliment the linear lines of my feature wall. Going vertical was a must. I contacted a local steel company and they quoted me $1,800 for a custom railing. If we weren’t in the middle of a global pandemic, I would have totally gone with them. So, this a perfect DIY project. During my search I found a DIY that involved stainless steel rods. Then, I found a This Old House video tutorial using cable railings and thought that was the winner. I’ll be sourcing materials to complete the railing and flooring in Week 4.
